Combined Surgery
It is our most preferred method, especially in the last two years. It is performed in the form of fusing two different types of obesity surgery. Thus, while the benefit from surgery is maximized, the risks are minimized.
As with the first sleeve gastrectomy surgery, the stomach is cut a long its long axis and made into a tube. Then the upper and lower half are completely separated by cutting through the middle. The small intestines are brought from 200cm away and connected to the upper part and the operation is terminated. İn fact, this surgery is already being used to convert the operations of the patients who have had sleeve gastrectomy surgery to a mini by-pass opertion, the reason why we use this first time in patients who will have surgery is;
- The success of weight loss is higher than in patients who have sleeve gastrectomy or by-pass surgery alone.
- Weight protection rates are higher than (sleeve gastrectomy,mini by-pass,gastric by-pass) alternative surgeries.
- Less chance at complications.
ADVANTAGES OVER GASTRIC BY-PASS AND MINI BY-PASS
- While performing a mini by-pass or gastric by-pass operation, the stomach is turned in to tube,the surgeon works in the area of the stomach facing the the liver and where veins are very dense, therefore the external side of the stomach, which is a safer area, is used when performing surgery. Thus, the veins on the liver side are preserved.
- Unlike mini by-pass and gastric by-pass surgeries, gastric fundus is removed and ghrelin secretion decreases appetitc.
- The patient is protected from the risk of internal herniation (intraabdominal hernia)after gastric by-pass surgery.
- A flatter and more robust stomach tube is obtained.
ACCORDING TO THE ADVANTAGES OF SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY;
- Since the stomach is made into a tube and connected to the intestine, the pressure in the stomach does not increase very much after surgery, thus reducing the possibility of leakage.
- Food absorption is also reduced as the small intestine is by-pass up to 200cm,so weight loss success is beter.
- It provides much beter control in diabetes and high cholesterol related diseases than sleeve gastrectomy.
- The possibility of revision is much less than other surgeries.
The duration of surgery is about 40 minutes. The patient can take watery food the next day and usually discharged on the 3rd day.
