Sleeve Gastrectomy

Sleeve gastrectomy is the incision of the stomach along the long axis of the stomach in to a tube during surgery.

Thus, the stomach which can grow up to 1500 cc in volume when previously eaten, can only receive as much as 100-150cc of food after surgery.

Patients who have surgery can eat much less of the food they are accustomed to,as their stomach volume reduced. İn this way they get low calories.İn addition, their appetite decreases ue to the decrease of the hormone called grelin (hunger hormone) secreted from the extracted part of the stomach. Due to these two effects of surgery, our patients can lose approximately 85-90% of their excess weight. While weight loss is fast in the first 6 months, it gradually slows down and continues for 2 years. Surgery is performed by laparoscopic (closed methods)with the help of video-camera.

The mean operation time is 30-40 minutes. During surgery,high-tech instruments called staples are used that automatically seams the stomach and then cuts it. Also if necessary, additional stitches may be thrown into the seam line for reinforcement .

24-48 hours after the operation, juicy food is started . Usually 3rd day she/he could be released on the day. Becouse it is applied with laparoscopic method, the patient is able to perform his/her daily work when discharged.
